Quick answer: To set up billing in Meta Ads Manager, open Billing and payments from the Ads Manager menu, go to Payment settings, and click Add payment method. Choose a credit or debit card, PayPal or another option available in your country, enter the details and save. To use one card for several ad accounts, add it in Business settings → Billing and payments and share it with each account.
Your ads can’t run until your ad account has a valid payment method. This guide is for anyone launching their first Meta campaign or managing several ad accounts who wants billing set up correctly from the start.

What do you need before adding a payment method?
- An ad account in Meta Ads Manager or a business portfolio.
- Admin access to the ad account (or the business portfolio for business-level payment methods).
- A payment method that supports online and international transactions, such as a card or PayPal account.
How to add a payment method in Meta Ads Manager (step by step)
Step 1: Open Billing and payments
Go to Ads Manager, open the main menu, and click Billing and payments. Make sure the correct ad account is selected at the top.
Step 2: Go to Payment settings
Click Payment settings (sometimes shown as Payment methods). Here you can see your current payment methods, account spending limit and billing details.
Step 3: Click Add payment method
Click Add payment method and pick the option that suits you. The list depends on your country and ad account currency:
- Credit or debit card: the most common option, charged automatically.
- PayPal: log in and approve the billing agreement.
- Online banking or local wallets: available in some countries, often used to add funds in advance.
Step 4: Enter the details and save
Fill in the card or account details, then click Save. Your bank may ask you to confirm the payment in its app or by SMS code.
Step 5: Set a primary payment method
If you add more than one method, open the three-dot menu next to the one you want and make it the primary method. Meta uses the others as backups if a charge fails.
Step 6: Optional: add a payment method at the business level
In Meta Business Suite, go to Settings → Billing and payments and add a payment method there. You can then assign it to any ad account the business owns, which saves time when you manage several accounts.
Tips to manage Meta ad billing easily
- Set an account spending limit in Payment settings so the account can never spend more than you plan.
- Add your business name, address and tax ID (if you have one) in billing details so your receipts are correct.
- Keep a backup payment method so a declined card doesn’t stop your campaigns.
- Download receipts from the Transactions or Payment activity section for your accounts.
Payment method not working? Common problems and fixes
Your card is declined
Many banks block online or international payments by default. Ask your bank to allow them, check that the card has enough funds, and make sure the billing address matches the card.
The payment option you want isn’t listed
Payment options depend on your ad account’s country and currency. If PayPal or local banking is missing, it may not be supported for that combination. Changing the currency may require creating a new ad account.
Ads stopped because of a failed payment
Go to Billing and payments, check for an outstanding balance, and click Pay now after fixing or replacing the payment method. Ads usually resume once the balance is paid.
You can’t edit payment settings
Only ad account admins can manage billing. Ask an admin to give you full control of the ad account in Business settings → Ad accounts.
What should you do next?
- Don’t have an ad account yet? Create a Meta ad account first.
- Choose the right goal with Meta campaign objectives explained.
- Before launching, go through the Meta Ads checklist before publishing.

Yes. Add the card at the business level in Business settings under Billing and payments, then assign it to each ad account the business owns.
With automatic payments, Meta charges you when you reach your billing threshold or on your monthly billing date, whichever comes first. With prepaid funds, you add money in advance and ads spend from that balance.
Open Payment settings, click the three-dot menu next to the method and choose remove. You may need to add another primary method first if the account has active ads.
